How can the subconscious be utilised in design?

This is the question I explored through the creation of the typeface Différance Dingbats, named after the concept of Différance coined by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida.

The idea emerged as an extension of my curiosity of the ever-oscillating relationship between words and images, and subconscious interpretations that generate new meanings.

Drawing from the creative games of the Surrealist art movement that aimed to promote spontaneity, Différance Dingbats provides a tool and game for our somewhat automated, subconscious minds to play.
