If Abandoned Trolleys Could Speak
(PUBLIC ART PROJECT)
Malvern is home to two major supermarkets. Consequently, I observed the collateral damage; abandoned shopping trolleys.
I wanted to make visible the surprisingly evocative imagined stories, personalities or voices of these trolleys, and in a sense, allow them to communicate. I set out to tie a yellow balloon to each abandoned trolley I would find, written on with a pithy message, thus acting as a ‘speech bubble’.
The work drew attention to the ignored inconvenience. For some, this project is a cheer-up in lockdown times, and for others, it points out a lack in social responsibility.
